Dan Cioper: Music

We Are The Ones

((The Lovers))
April 1, 2008
Daniel Cioper
"We are the ones we have been waiting for" is an old Hopi saying as well as many others who say it. Starr made a bunch of paper signs to put all down the street as a sort of art piece/wake up call for her city. These words were on one of them so I made a song. Little did I know that Sweet Honey In The Rock had made a song by the same refrain some years ago. They are different songs, though.
There isn't a song that hasn't been sung.
There are no new words in any old tongue
that haven't been uttered,
save the one of world unity
from sea to shining sea.
There isn't a world in ever-loving space
that isn't on edge that doesn't a-wait
for that shiny blue jewel in the white milky way
to rise from the dust and finally say:

We are the ones,
we are the ones,
we are the ones
we've been waiting for. (repeat)

Don't look in back, no, stand your ground.
The green light has surely already been found.
Ain't no one deprived, so don't be depraved.
The time to arrive was yesterday
and it's really very true, hear me when I say
for the glory evolution it's never too late,
though the story is old it's relevant see
that the answer to deaths riddle is to be.

(Chorus)

And brother the future is what you make of the past.
There is no other time sister to shine shine shine.
Ooh like the rising moon, or a flower that blooms.
We're hatching an egg let's make it today.
(Chorus)
